Your Questions About Cheap Car Insurance Ontario

Michael asks…

I live in Hamilton, Ontario and I am going to be buying a car soon…INSURANCE! Help…?

I am going to be buying a car in about a few weeks, I am 17 right now but will be 18 in a few weeks also. I really need a car to get to school everyday starting in September since it’s really far from where I live. I live in Hamilton, ON in the downtown area. I have what is called a “G1″ license (most pathetic thing I’ve heard of) but I will need insurance to get the car (I know…it sucks!) Does anyone know of the CHEAPEST insurance company for someone like me to deal with in Hamilton, Ontario – everyone is saying I will be paying a fortune but which company can I get the cheapest rates with (TD Canada Trust says they don’t even insure G1 license holders)?

P.S let me know when you got an insurance policy 50% lower than your current policy thanks to me :D

Question regarding Ontario and Quebec tax laws?

I have recently moved to Quebec for the purpose of cheaper car insurance. I work in Ottawa and for my employment address, I am providing my parents’ address which is in Ontario. Will I have to pay any additional taxes because the address on my Driver’s License is now in Quebec? Could there be any potential problems with my current situation? Thanks in advance for any information.

MyDigiResults answers:

Your employer is based in Ontario and so is your home address (your parent’s house). Therefore you will pay Ontario taxes. Your drivers license address does not matter.

Joseph asks…

Can you get insurance for car hire cheaper than the one offered by the car rental company?

I visit Canada a lot, and love to hire cars from the aiport. I am gettting sick of paying over the odds for comprehensive insurance though. The rental company asked for 100$ for 3 day cover for a Yaris. They also said that the law in Ontario says that I will need to pay for damages to the car if I had an accident even if the other driver was at fault, as everyone pays for his own car. Is that true?

MyDigiResults answers:

Talk to the company that carries the insurance policy for your own car – quite often, it either already covers rental cars, or you can get low-cost additional coverage.

Make sure you understand what that coverage does and doesn’t include.

James asks…

What is a good first car for a female teenager?

I am a 16 year old high school student, and I want to buy my first car in the next few months. I was just wondering what kind of car is good for me. I want something that I can get used and under $3000. I also want it to be cheap on gas and insurance. It also has to be reliable, of course. And it would help if it looks decent too. :)

Also, is there a good web site to find a cheap used car in Ontario, Canada? Or possibly a specific car that would suit my needs?

Thank you.

MyDigiResults answers:

Toyota Camry or Corolla
or
Honda Civic or Accord
= perfect first car

All of the models go back pretty far so if you get an older model, it will be cheaper, though the body of the car is a little outdated but what can you expect for $3000?

The cars are all reliable and get good gas mileage because they are smaller cars. They are also pretty safe in case you get into an accident. Not saying that you would. (I hate it when people assume that you are going to get into an accident just because you are an “inexperienced teen driver.”)
