Richard asks…

convicted of drunk driving! Cheap car insurance UK?

Anyone know of a company that does fairly cheap car insurance for sum1 who is 23 thanks

MyDigiResults answers:

There probably isn’t one. A DUI will increase your rates substantially for at least three years, so you’ll just have to bite the bullet and pay. You can phone around several agents/companies, but you likely won’t find any “cheap” coverage.

I’m frequently amazed at some of the premium figures I see here for UK drivers, even those without problems. We Yanks think we’re being overcharged much of the time, but some of the UK figures I see are just appalling.

Sandra asks…

Does anyone know where to get cheap UK car insurance for a 17 year old male, preferable uder £1000.?

MyDigiResults answers:

Two possible ways to save money would be:
1) Pay for the Pass Plus course around £120 but you get 10% or more offf car insurance and you will be amazed at how many insurers take it into account these days
2) Use someone like Direct Line with a parent/experienced driver as the main driver and your son as named driver as they allow him to gain no claims aswell which he can then use when he’s got a few years driving behind him.

Other than tha tAdmiral is one of the best.
NEVER use sites like confused.com when i have tryed it yu can always get a lesser quote when you use the individual insurance companies websites.

Robert asks…

Does UK car insurance get noticeably cheaper when you reach 25 years old?

or is this just a general thought among motorists?

MyDigiResults answers:

It varies from person to person, depending on your no claims bonus, claims history, type of previous cover, period in which you’ve held a license etc…
On average, 21 tends to be the age in which someone can get insured on something with more than 4 cylinders. Anywhere between 23 and 27 is the time that prices really plummet depending on the aforementioned reasons.

Maria asks…

(uk only) who is the cheapest for car insurance?

im male, nearly thirty and full no claims bonus i live in manchester

MyDigiResults answers:

Different companies are cheaper for different people in different circumstances.

There are web sites that will compare on line by crawling around e.g Money supermarket, or there is a company called insurancewide which will ask you your age, gender, type of cover you want, etc etc and give you a list of the most suitable companies for you.

I would advise this as best for you to start, as Direct Line were cheapest for my brother and most expensive for me. We drove almost identical cars and lived at the same address.

It also depends on who the underwriters are – Direct Line does the Tesco insurance.
